Alongside the day-to-day work of roofline, roofing and cladding, there is another story worth telling: one of a business that has made charitable giving a genuine part of how it operates.
To date, DMDI has raised more than £225,000 for local charities and support more than 25 charity events in the last year. This case study looks at the initiatives behind that total, including the annual charity golf day, the Canaryball Rally, charity balls, and the wider social value work.
A decade of the DMDI Charity Golf Day
The annual charity golf day is the cornerstone of DMDI’s social value activity. Each year it brings together clients, partners and suppliers for a day that combines friendly competition with fundraising for causes across the region, including East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, the Community Sports Foundation, The Fire Fighters Charity and Big C, raising more than £200,000 over the years.
The 2024 event raised £35,000, and 2025 built on that with more than 220 golfers taking part and £40,000 raised, both years split between the same four charities. 2026 marks DMDI’s tenth annual golf day and it raised a staggering £45,000.
Taking fundraising off the fairway: the Canaryball Rally
Not all of DMDI’s fundraising happens on a golf course. Canaryball Rally 3 raised over £42,000 for the Norwich City Community Sports Foundation in 2025, showing how the business extends its charitable reach beyond a single flagship event and into initiatives that engage a different audience and a different kind of supporter.
Charity balls: another £15,000 for good causes
In 2024 to celebrate DMDI’s 20th Anniversary, the company’s charity ball raised over £15,500 for Community Sports Foundation and Priscilla Bacon Hospive, adding to the totals generated by the golf day and the Canaryball Rally and giving supporters another way to get involved outside of a sporting event.
After a successful event in 2024, DMDI will be hosting another charity ball in 2026, supporting Break and Hopestead and we hope for another great evening to support these deserving Charites.
Wider initiatives: social value beyond fundraising
Charitable giving is only one part of DMDI’s approach to social value. Alongside the golf day, the Canaryball Rally and the charity ball, the business supports the communities it works in through a number of other ongoing initiatives.
Litter picks. DMDI has completed more than ten local litter picks, a small but visible way of giving something back to the areas where its teams live and work.
Tree planting. Since 2020, DMDI has planted 877 trees as part of its efforts to reduce its environmental footprint and work towards becoming a net-zero business. The programme sits alongside an ongoing review of working practices, aimed at making every project as sustainable as possible.
Supporting clients with their own social value and training needs. As a long-standing partner to housing providers and commercial clients across East Anglia, DMDI’s role often goes beyond delivering roofing, roofline and cladding contracts.
Many of the organisations we work with have their own social value commitments to meet, whether that’s compliance obligations, workforce development, or community outcomes tied to a contract. DMDI’s accredited training courses, help clients keep their own teams safe, qualified and compliant, and support the social value targets such as working with their local communities, that increasingly sit alongside housing and construction contracts. We currently offer training credits and are open to discussing these with our clients.
The difference it makes
Across the golf day, the Canaryball Rally and other fundraising activity, DMDI’s charitable giving has consistently supported a small group of causes with deep roots in East Anglia: East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, the Community Sports Foundation, The Fire Fighters Charity and Big C. That consistency matters. Rather than spreading support thinly across many one-off causes, DMDI has built long-term relationships with charities that serve the same communities the business works in every day.
This sits alongside DMDI’s broader social value work, including its tree planting programme and local litter picks, as part of a wider commitment to leaving a positive mark on the region beyond the roofs, roofline and cladding it delivers.
