Working at height is a critical consideration when planning construction works and to plan works safely and effectively, a hierarchy of controls needs to be followed – avoid, prevent, and mitigate.

Working at height is the biggest single cause of fatal and serious injury in the construction industry, particularly on smaller projects. Ladders, scaffolds, working platforms, and roof edges all play a part in this.

Here at DMD, we follow strict protocols and regulations to ensure our members of staff and all third parties are kept safe and the work can be completed efficiently. This involves assessing the risk, deciding on the correct and necessary precautions, and producing method statements.

Because of this, to replace fascia, soffits, and guttering we access properties via access platforms such as Easi-Dec’s or fixed scaffolding. This means everyone is safe and our work can be completed to a high standard.

Mobile Access Platforms and Fixed Scaffolding

Mobile access platforms are portable and adaptable and are used for working at heights. Also known as mobile elevating work platforms, MEWPs come in a wide range of shapes and sizes and can be used both internally and externally.

There are many benefits to using a mobile access platform. Firstly, it improves safety as they are specifically designed with safety in mind, and they actively help prevent falls when using a fall arrest. They are also portable, which means our teams have increased productivity as jobs can be completed at a quicker pace as scaffolding can take more time to build and takedown.

Traditional fixed scaffolding also offers great benefits for accessibility when replacing fascia, soffits, and guttering. Once erected it enables easy access, provides firm footing, and ensures safety.
